Local only works if there are people within a few feet from you playing the game at the same time.

No; they have to be near you if you want to play with them

Online play is a game changer for AC especially if u get a great set of friends I would say defo worth the price. :)

Yes, you can invite your friends to your island without an on-line membership. You just need to be in the same room to do so.
