Today my villager told me to leave and I told him yes, he should leave, so my question is: if a day has not passed, can I go to another island to ask another neighbor at the checkout to go to my island?

Or do I have to wait until the next day to ask?

@Tails you have to wait until they have left and the plot is empty before you can invite another.

@Tails, another option for a new Villager is on the day the plot is empty use Nook Mile Tickets and talk to Oliver at the airport. Fly to an island using the Tickets. On the island you fly to you can find a Villager and invite them to your island if you like.
