Do we have to have a Nintendo account to visit other people’s islands

Yes you need nintendo online to visit other players islands, though local play may be possible without f 2 players are on the same WiFi.. but I've never tried it so not sure if the online is needed for that too :)

Local play should work, when I use it it says it turns off the internet so you can play with people on the same wifi.
