Oh, I have red ones, and they stay on for me after placing them.

I have the pink ones, and if I remember correctly, they turned and stayed on right as I placed the stage. Also, I have a friend who I've seen has a blue one and the lights were on, but it was at night. Maybe the light is such a pale color it doesn't seem to turn on?
