Slumber Islands guide - Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Created by NookFriends on the 15/01/2026

Slumber Islands are a brand new feature introduced in the 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Unlike Dream Addresses, which let you visit islands in a read-only dream state, Slumber Islands allow real-time multiplayer experiences where you can interact with the host and other visitors, help with tasks, and even collaborate on decorating and terraforming.

What are Slumber Islands?

Slumber Islands are customizable dream worlds that exist within Luna's dream realm. When you create a Slumber Island, you're essentially building a separate island that you can design from scratch, completely independent from your main island.

The key feature that sets Slumber Islands apart from Dream Addresses is their interactive, multiplayer nature. While Dream Addresses are static snapshots that only one person can visit at a time, Slumber Islands support real-time multiplayer where multiple players can visit simultaneously, interact with each other, and even help decorate and terraform the island together.

How to create a Slumber Island

Creating a Slumber Island is simple, but you'll need an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Here's how to get started:

Go to any bed in your house (or any bed on your island) and interact with it. Select the option "It's slumber time." Luna (Alakama) will appear and guide you through the process of creating your first Slumber Island.

Each player can create up to 3 Slumber Islands, so you have plenty of room to experiment with different themes, layouts, and designs.

Customizing your Slumber Island

When creating a new Slumber Island, you'll first choose from three different sizes: small, medium, or large. After selecting a size, you'll be presented with four different layout options to choose from. Small islands can have either one river mouth or none, medium islands always have one river mouth, and large islands always have two river mouths.

Once your Slumber Island is created, you have complete freedom to customize it however you want. You can use all the furniture, items, and DIY recipes you've unlocked in your main game. You can place plants and trees wherever you like, terraform rivers and cliffs, create paths, and build structures just like on your main island.

One unique feature of Slumber Islands is that you can control the time of day and weather. Want to show off your island at sunset? Or during a meteor shower? You can set the time and weather to whatever you prefer, making it perfect for creating specific atmospheres or showcasing your island in ideal conditions.

You can also bring villagers from your main island to your Slumber Island, or even invite former villagers who have moved away. This is a great way to reunite with favorite neighbors you might have lost touch with.

Visiting other players' Slumber Islands

To visit someone else's Slumber Island, you'll need their Doze Code. Doze Codes work similarly to Dodo Codes, but they're specifically for Slumber Islands. The host can share their Doze Code, and visitors can enter it to join the island.

When visiting a Slumber Island, you'll need to go to a bed and select "It's slumber time." Then choose the option to visit someone else's Slumber Island and enter the Doze Code. You'll be transported to their island where you can explore, interact, and help with tasks in real-time.

Multiple players can visit the same Slumber Island at the same time. You can have 8 player sessions or 12 player sessions. This makes Slumber Islands perfect for group activities, collaborative building sessions, or just hanging out with friends.

Unlike your main island where only best friends can use tools like shovels and axes, on Slumber Islands, all visitors can help with decorating and terraforming. This collaborative aspect makes Slumber Islands ideal for group projects or getting help from friends to build your dream island.

Differences from Dream Addresses

While both Dream Addresses and Slumber Islands exist in Luna's dream world, they serve very different purposes:

Dream Addresses are read-only snapshots of your main island. Visitors can explore and see your island exactly as it was when you uploaded it, but they can't interact with you, pick up items, or make any changes. Only one person can visit a Dream Address at a time, and the experience is completely solo.

Slumber Islands are interactive, real-time multiplayer experiences. Multiple players can visit simultaneously, interact with each other and the host, help with decorating and terraforming, and work together on tasks. The island can be edited by visitors (with the host's permission), making it a collaborative space rather than a static showcase.

Use Dream Addresses when you want to showcase your main island as a permanent, polished display. Use Slumber Islands when you want to collaborate with friends, host multiplayer events, or create experimental islands separate from your main one.

Requirements and limitations

To create or visit Slumber Islands, you must have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. This is required for the online multiplayer functionality that makes Slumber Islands work.

Each player can create up to 3 Slumber Islands. This gives you plenty of space to experiment with different themes and designs, but you'll need to delete an existing island if you want to create a fourth one.

You can choose between 8 player sessions or 12 player sessions. The host can set a maximum number of visitors when creating or sharing their Doze Code.

⚠️ Important: Unlike Dream Addresses which are permanent and public, Slumber Islands use Doze Codes that can be changed or closed by the host at any time. This gives hosts more control over who visits their island and when, but it also means codes are temporary and should be shared carefully.

Slumber Islands open up exciting new possibilities for multiplayer experiences in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Whether you want to collaborate with friends on building projects, host group events, or simply create experimental islands separate from your main one, Slumber Islands provide the perfect space for creative multiplayer fun.
